...such is the city.

NEW YORK FARM CITY:

We all know urban farming is really taking root (*ahem*) in many places like Chicago, San Francisco, and New York.  Check out this video about urban farmers in NYC showing a bit of what they do, the movements and organizations they’re a part of, and where the food goes once it leaves the rooftop.

SEATTLE, CARBON-NEUTRAL BY 2050:
“A little more than a year ago, the Seattle city council decided to make the city carbon-neutral by 2050. Few other cities in the world have committed to such an ambitious plan, and those that have, like Melbourne and Copenhagen, will rely heavily on purchasing carbon offsets, which Seattle will not do. With 40 years to bring its net emissions down to zero, the city hired a consulting group to draft a preliminary plan(via Think Progress) that lays out a road map for how major cities can reach carbon-neutral status.”

“Urban farmers were delighted Tuesday when Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a proposed ordinance that could make growing and selling fresh produce in Chicago much easier.”

CHICAGO’S GREEN ROOFTOPS:
In a photo-essay/interview with photographer Brad Temkin, Chicago’s part in the “green rooftop movement” gets some attention.  The photos are high quality, and it’s kinda cool to see a nice little tree growing on a roof surrounded by Chicago skyscrapers.  Definitely worth a look-see.

“Much to the consternation of developers and redevelopment agencies intent on demolishing historic buildings and constructing new ones, these days, in the name of going green, preservationists are making the case that “the greenest building is the one already built.”’
